PubTunes acts as a “hybrid place” in which participants join a “media space” where they can anonymously share and build their musical tastes with others, while simultaneously sharing the physical acoustic space. This encourages a social listening experience. This physical space for PubTunes is a space in which music is being played through a playlist interface by the “location owner” (the person who create the location within PubTunes), supplemented by the platform which acts as a mediator for building collective representation of taste and selecting the resulting music played in the space. PubTunes’ primary functions are to act as the agent of music selection based on user preference profiles and as an interface through which users can provide feedback and steering to affect the agent choice. In this way, PubTunes becomes the tool for inhabitants to create and perpetuate place-identity in a shared space through music taste.
