Paragaming is the act of seeking out and playing bad games. As described in a 2009 DiGRA panel, paragraming “can be seen as the practice of valuing games because they fail to meet game-specific quality criteria like usability, stability, flow, etc.” It derives from paracinema (watching bad movies) and the appreciation of camp. The Paragaming group is being established to provide lost perspective on the history of the games industry and game culture. It is easy to talk and write about good games because the are the ones we actually want to play. But our goal is to unearth the subpar, the forgotten, the ill-conceived, and the failed to find meaning far outside the canon of gaming.
