APPLICATION GUIDELINES
All application materials for the Digital Media Ph.D. Program must be received by December 15, 2022 for Fall 2023 admissions.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Applications must be submitted online at http://grad.gatech.edu/apply-now. In addition, you must provide a writing sample and a URL for web-based work samples in your online application.
PHD APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
• Graduate Record Exam (GRE) test scores (Code 5248) - GRE scores are not required at any level of our program for 2023 admissions.
• TOEFL or IELTS score for non-native English speakers (Code 5248)
• Completed on-line Georgia Tech Graduate Application Form
• Georgia Tech Application Fee (Domestic Students): $75.00
• Georgia Tech Application Fee (International Students): $85.00
• Certified undergraduate transcript (also graduate transcripts, if applicable)
• Three letters of recommendation
• Personal Statement explaining the role of the DM program in the applicant’s creative, intellectual, and professional development
• Writing sample and online portfolio submitted through the application
WRITING SAMPLE GUIDELINES
The writing sample should be a scholarly article or paper that effectively showcases your ability to craft and carry out an argument, to write clearly and critically, and to engage with key texts about the theory and practice of media in general and digital media in particular. A single-authored sample is preferred, but if you submit a co-authored paper, please indicate what aspects of its preparation you contributed specifically.
WORK SAMPLE GUIDELINES
The work sample should be a sample of your own work that demonstrates your potential as a practitioner and analyst of digital media. Provide 1-3 concrete examples of a computational artifact that demonstrates your creative and technical abilities in expressive computing. Choose work that supports your research trajectory as described in the Personal Statement. A URL pointer to work on the Internet is required.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
DILAC
The Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center at Georgia Tech with major funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is seeking two Ph.D students to work in areas of interactive narrative (advised by Professor Janet Murray) and Smart Cities and Social Justice (advised by Professor Nassim Parvin). This is a fully funded Ph.D in Digital Media (https://dm.lmc.gatech.edu/) providing tuition remission and a monthly stipend for the 9-month academic year though DILAC in the first two years followed by another two years of guaranteed funding through the Digital Media program. GTA/GRA
All Ph.D. students are guaranteed funding in the form of a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Research Assistant (GRA). Occasionally, we have faculty that may have funding, and applicants can be considered for specific opportunities outside of the general financing the department guarantees. As a GTA/GRA, Ph.D. students work 20 hours a week and earns a stipend of $2500 per month. Georgia Tech tuition for GRAs & GTAs is waived; however, students are required to pay all Georgia Tech Mandatory Student Fees plus $25.00.
