Where are you from?
Carrollton, GA
What is your educational and/or professional background?
I taught Composition and Ethnic American Literatures at Marshall University and University of West Georgia before coming to Tech. I have a BA & MA in English.
What activities are you involved with on campus?
I’m involved with the Student Alumni Association and Women in Cable Telecommunications. Both have mentoring programs that are fantastic. I’m a member of the GT Arts Think Tank and am a representative on the IAC Graduate Student Advisory Board. I also have a GRA with the Digital Media program.
What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?
So far, my favorite project has been a poetry generator in Dr. Magerko’s the Computer as an Expressive Medium course. We used Processing to gather content from Twitter, de/reconstruct the language, and display it in a novel way.
Why did you choose Digital Media at Georgia Tech?
I was considering a couple of PhD programs in digital rhetoric, but I ultimately chose the MS despite not being a terminal degree because of the program’s combination of theory and practice. Digital Media at Tech offers a technical component to media studies that many programs don’t. I feel more confident analyzing a text that I also understand how to build, and this program suits that goal.
What are your ambitions after finishing the Digital Media program?
Make art. Expand minds.
